Sports. If women for example play physically active sports through out their teenage years they will grow taller. The reason for that is the end of the long bones of the legs where growth in height occurs will shut down early without continued stimulation during the teenage years. On the other hand if the girl plays basketball or volley ball or tennis or does gymnastics and runs and is very active longer into the late teenage years she will continue to grow taller for a longer time period because she will keep those growth points from shutting down.

Other environmental factors can affect a human's height. For example being in certain regions of the world, you tend to evolve to fit the needs for you to survive in such climate. That is why it is typical to be slightly shorter in a place like Antarctica where height might not be as important.

If you don't eat nourishing food as a child you will not live up to your genetic potential - in other words you will be shorter than you would have been if you were given healthy things to eat.
Look at a lot of the immigrants from third world countries who are much shorter than they should have been because their families had too many children to afford adequate food for their kids.

Health and Nutrition - Growth can be stunted by lack of essential nutrients due to poor diet, lack of enough food, or illness. Growth is secondary to survival, so if the body is too busy simply trying to survive, you will not reach your full potential height.

Age and health. Those people who are malnutritious tend to be shorter because their body lacks many of the nutrients the body needs for proper growth.
