They are connected by the bronchial trees to the trachea, and sits onthe diaphragm.

Lungs, or identical artificial organs, are essential to our survival because they are the site of oxygen and carbon dioxide exchange (by diffusion) between the gaseous environment and the blood.

Your lungs are connected to the blood circulatory system which brings de-oxygenated blood to them from the heart and takes oxygenated blood away to the heart to be pumped through arteries for the rest of the body.

If one lung is damaged, deflated, or missing the body can get by for most non-strenuous activities. If both were inoperative all of the parts of the body will die, including the brain which is dead in four minutes without oxygen.
