my son just started to really like reading and loves goosebumps, I was looking for some other series of books that are just as good and kind of the same theme / interest.

I love tons of books! Some of my favorites are:

The Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling
A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket
most Judy Blume Books
The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon by Stephen King
Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls
Summer of the Monkeys- sorry forgot the author!
Sleeping Murder-Agatha Christie
Wenny Has Wings-Janet Lee Carey
And when I was younger I was into Hank the Cowdog
Julie of the Wolves-Jean Craighead George
The Giver-Lois Lowry
Messenger-Lois Lowry
Gathering Blue-Lois Lowry
The City of Ember and The People of Sparks- the first won the Mark Twain Award of Missouri- I forgot this this author too, but look for it-its well worth the search.

I don't know how old your son is and some of these books aren't exactly the same theme, but they are wonderful reads- I especially recommend Lois Lowry, Lemony Snicket, J.K. Rowling, and The City of Ember, plus its sequel. Those might get your son hooked, and they are my favorites that I'll never forget. Happy Reading! :) Also DEFINETLY recommended: The Chronicles of Narnia and Bridge to Terabithia

Good for him!!! You didn't say how old your son is. However, he might enjoy the "Captain Underpants" series. R.L. Stine is also a great author. He wrote many great books along the "Goosebumps" line such as "The Rotten School" series and the "Mostly Ghostly" series. There are so many wonderful series out there for kids. You may want to stop into your local library and speak to the children's librarian and take your son with you. He or she will also be able to point you in the right direction and your son will have the opportunity to check out the suggestions and choose what interests him.

When I was a child I really liked a popular teen writer. Her name is Lois Duncan. She has several books and most are very interesting. I am not sure if the movie was based on the book or not but " I know what you did last summer" the book is written by her as well as "Killing Mr. Griffin" another movie that came from her books. However I am not sure how old you're son is. I was about 10 or 11 when I really took an interest. The only book of hers I would not suggest you're son reading is "Who killed my Daughter" but this book is based on her own daughters disappearance which is true story.

Over the summer, I worked as a Summer Reading Program Daycare Outreach Coordinator - in other words, I took the reading program to the local daycares. I worked with children ages kindergarten to eighth grade in some cases. I found that a lot of the older kids really liked the A to Z Mysteries by Ron Roy, The Boxcar Children series by Gertrude Chandler Warner, and the Jigsaw Jones series by James Preller. Amazon.com is also a great resource to browse various categories of books!

Good Luck finding more that he likes - it's good to hear that reading interests him and that you're really encouraging it!! :)

Depending on his age...Fear Street is a similar book to Goosebumps, meant for Junior High/High School. Harry Potter books are also incredible, but they are a little bit more difficult reads (but would be good to read together) and by the time you get to the 7th (which is coming out in July) he will probably be quite a bit older...they are anywhere from 300-600 pages a piece!

Cirque du Freak books, for ages 9-12. The set is awesome!

Series of Unfortunate Events, great series, and watch the movie too!

I have two boys, ages 10 and 13, and I teach middle school. These are a sure hit!

I can recommend a bunch more, that aren't a series, if you are interested!

I believe he might enjoy the 13 books in the Series of Unfortunate events saga by Lemony Snicket, though you may want to read one or two yourself to make sure they aren't too intense
