Can I do this with a file on my hard drive or do I have to host it online somewhere?

Unless your machine has a web server, no you can't.

The file name has to be locateable by the server. If you did that, it would have to be in the same folder as the html page.

Why can't you upload the pic with the page?

If I wrote < img src='myfile.jpg'> it would show an error pic thingie. If I wrote < img src='http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/geo/advan/spacer.gif'> I would get that little discover picture at the top of the screen.

The picture doesn't have to be on your website, but it has to be somewhere. On your website is best, since you control it.

If all of that made sense to you, pick up your diploma on the way out. :)

Hey Tres Nipola` - Your ISP usually allows 5-10 MB server space for their customers. You can upload it to their server and use the link in your page.

you can see it yourself if you hard code the path to your own machine but nobody else will be able to unless you upload it to the internet somewhere.

you can always get free hosting at places like angelfire, yahoo, whatever.

It does have to be hosted somewhere. You can do a Yahoo Photo Album and make it public and link it there. *Hint Hint*

yes you would have to upload your pictures for your websit onto the server your using to host your site.
