Some low-light choices are:
Chinese Evergreen, Neanthe Bella Palm, Parlor Palm, Boston Fern, Heart Leaf Philodrendron, Mother-In-Law's Tongue, Snake Plant, White Flag

I think a terrarium would be fun for your situation. In it you could create an environment your dorm room most likely lacks; high humidity, light.

You could even add a couple little salamaders in it!

philodendrons, spathyphyllums, anthuriums, the list of tropicals that don't require a lot of sun is endless. your larger concern is humidity and all the above should do ok. indoor humidity is generally kind of low so plants dont' fare that great inside without weekends outdoors.

the only plants i keep inside are in with my fish. maybe try your hand at underwater gardening.

my orchids come in on cold night though -- i live in fla so they stay outside 360 days a year.

Fruit vegetables and dip Rotisserie fowl (you are able to stick those in the refrigerator and they very last for some days) String cheese Yogurt Low fat cottage cheese those little jell-o and pudding packs. They make sugar free variations too in case you want them fit. Skim milk fat free cream cheese in case you want bagels Juice Do you've a freezer alongside with the refrigerator? you need to purchase frozen food which may be cooked in the microwave downstairs like Lean Cuisines, Lean wallet, etc..

I would suggest an aloe plant. Not only is it pretty hardy, it is handy to have in the event of sunburn, tanning bed burn, bug bites, cooking burns, and soothing dry skin.
I also grew marigolds for the color, but not all will enjoy them.
Good luck.

take a sweet tater or irish tater and cut it in half, place it in a mason jar half filled with water with the top of tater in the air. It grows really fast, is fun to watch grow daily, makes beautiful vines around window and room, grows long and thick and is cheap, save your money for saturday nites. oh yeah, keep water in the jar although its a sturdy plant and guaranteed to grow.

College dorms need pot plants! You will have to get a grow light though, because pot needs a lot of light.
