Why does my internet turn off about every 2 hours? I'm trying to download a game and it takes like 2 hours and 30 minutes and when I am 30 minutes away my internet stops receiving packets and the internet activity light stops blinking(on my modem). Any suggestions? It happened ever since I installed my wireless...I tried turning off my wireless but it still didn't work. Please help, I've been trying to download the game for like 4 days.

It's not the game, I play my other games that I bought and they even get messed up cause my internet stops receiving the packets.

I'm using SBC DSL. I'll try to see if my network cable is plugged in tightly and I'll choose the best answer if it all works out, thanks. Keep the suggestions coming though!

Loss of connection with a Wireless G rated connection can happen frequently if you have cordless telephones in your house that are 2.4ghz band phones, anytime someone answers a call the signal can interrupt wireless G internet connections. Also some microwaves use the 2.4ghz range when running. Frequently clients have asked me why this occurs and come to find they use 2.4ghz cordless phones in their location. Wireless G transmits along the 2.4ghz range, if you have cordless 2.4ghz phones, try replacing them with either 900mhz or 5.8ghz models to see if your problems go away. Another possibility is your ISP is aDSL, there is a setting within a router or the DSL modem you have to activate to keep the connection live or about every 5-10 minutes the DSL modem can disconnect for lack of activity. While you might not have a virus, if you use either the Windows Firewall or another software firewall program, it might be possible that whatever program you are using tries requesting information from a port that is blocked, you might check this also.

uhh you gotta change something in your settings. Your modem is just over working so it's requesting "timeout". How big is the game file? May I suggest using a download manager? It saves your installation for your game in case if you get disconnect. I forgot where to get that dl manager. Go google it and yea. If you still can find your answer. I suggest asking the pros www.allexperts.com hahaha they always answer alll my q's and problems I have. Anyways good luck fixing your internet. Try phoning your internet service provider. they might be able to give you support with the probelm your experiencing.

I have the same problem as you have. I found out that so many people (in my family) access and download from Internet at the same time through wireless, and it make the network disconnected.
I turn off wireless, and it is fine.
You may just download that game until it finished, then do anything else later.

are your parental controls on in aol? or are you restricted to 2 hours within the admin area? In admin area, you need administrator's password to turn it off. In AOL, you need primary account's sn & password to turn off parental controls. Either that, or there's a problem with:
1) your computer, or it's internet connection. make sure everything's plugged in.
2) technical difficulties at your ISP side, or there could be too many users online and the ISP's servers can't handle everything all at one time. Restart computer and go online again.
3) Very unlikely: You have a virus.

If you're using a laptop, check your "power settings" in "control panel". Set the power settings to "never" and download the game. Make sure you reset the settings after the download or your computer will always be on.
Also, check "device manager" (right click "my computer" and choose "properties") and make sure the Ethernet card is set not to turn off.
