I was studying Psych. earlier and I took a nap in the afternoon. I woke up and (don't ask why) I formed a great sentence with words I normally wouldn't use. I had better diction I guess you could say.

After sitting up right and being fully awake, I tried to recreate that sentence again and... I couldn't. Couldn't find the right words and it was extremely frustrating.

Why is that?

Because the days obstacles have not had an opportunity to distract your attention.

This technique works even better when you wake up in the morning. That is when Most people think of their best and creative ideas. The mind is refreshed and free from conflicts that arise during the course of a busy day. I love to read and tackle those big problems in the morning when I'm refreshed and fully alert. When I come home from work, my brain is mush and I have to do easy things like watch TV or read the paper....Some of our best ideas occur after naps or sleep, hence the phrase, "let's sleep on it."

Another way this happens is by taking a long walk or by exercising. Those solutions to big problems just seem to come out of nowhere when the mind is relaxed and the sub-conscious takes over for a little bit. Sometimes we just overthink our problems and this causes greater confusion.

Maybe the fact that you're getting rested emotionally, physically, and mentally helps. Your body hasn't had to work all day at other activities, so it can focus more readily towards the task at hand. Because this is the first thing it is presented with after recouperating, your mind may be more alert and agile.

Chris, after you took the nap, your mind became totally refreshed. Being relaxed has alot to do with the way one thinks sometimes.

That happens to me a lot too. It mainly has to do with how fresh your brain is. Just like your muscles are more prone to being tired late in the day, your brain has worked hard all day too.
