Other than the fact that the Cubs continually suck, I would say the Midwestern rivalry of Chicago and St. Louis is historically more relevant. Personally, I think the Yanks and Sox are a bunch of overpaid whiney supermodels who generate uneeded amounts of drama because of the east coast media. THoughts?

The Sox and Yankees rivalry is the greatest in ALL sports not just limited to baseball. The fans live and die with every pitch of this great rivalry. In fact it is just as much about life as it is sports. I live in Minnesota, Yet I still hate the Yankees with a passion, and pretty much everything New York!

PS. YANKEES SUCK!!!! YANKEES SUCK!!!! YANKEES SUCK!!!!

Yanks/Red Sox, no question about it.

The Cubs and Cardinals have rarely been great at the same time...they both had some great teams in the 30s, but that's about it.

The Cardinals have good teams in just about every decade, but the Cubs haven't won a pennant since we all know when. And they haven't won a World Series (or even come close) since 1908. The Red Sox went 84 years without a Series title, but lost 4 game sevens in World Series play (1946, 1967, 1975 and 1986), so at least they had a shot at a title.

Both the Yankees and Red Sox have had excellent teams in the 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s. They recently played back to back ALCSs that went 7 games. They also both had great teams in the 40s and 50s as well.

Part of being rivals is that you have to face each other in "showdown" games for league or division supremacy. It's rare for the Cubs to contend for anything.

Plus, a lot of the country doesn't even know that there IS a Cubs-Cardinals 'rivalry'. But everyone knows about the Yanks and the Sox, even if they don't like them.

The Cubs Cardinal rivalry is probably more genteel. The Cub fans do show up at Busch Stadium and make themselves heard (and we know this because WGN is on every cable package, even the penguins in Antarctica can watch the Cubs on WGN and the Braves on TBS). But Red Sox and Yankees has grown into something much bigger in the last 10 years. Certainly Bostonians have hated New York and the Yankees and their fans since Revolutionary War days (OK, only a slight exaggeration). True Boston fans know about 1949 with the Red Sox 1 game up on the Yankees with two games to go in Yankee Stadium--where they lost both games. And then really nothing until 1978 when Bucky F. Dent hit his home run in a one game playoff. Then really nothing until 1999 when they met in the ALCS. Pedro was masterful in one game, but the Yankees won the other four. In 2003 it was Aaron F. Boone in the bottom of the 12th inning of game 7. (No sooner had the ball cleared the fence than my cell phone was ringing with drunken Yankee fans) Then finally redemption in 2004 (I did not call any drunken Yankee fans) The Red Sox Yankee rivalry is a super rivalry unsurpassed in American sports.

The Sox and Yankees of course. Who doesn't like watching the two teams ESPN talks about everyday. Also they are the two teams with the highest payrolls in baseball. So who doesn't like to watch the leagues best play against eachother. Plus the Cubs and Cards games are on ESPN 2 or 3 times a year. Every single game the Sox and Yankees play against each other is on ESPN. I remember that 5 game series the Yanks and Sox had last year and 4 out of the 5 games were on ESPN the other one wasn't on because it was game 2 of a double header. That is Unbelievable and show just how big this rivalry is.

Overpaid whiney surpermodels? Uneeded drama? I would say the Red Sox-Yankee rivalry is way, WAY MORE better than the Cards and Cubs. First of all guy, at least our two teams are good enough to face each other in the postseason. Our rivalry is so much more of a rivalry. Of the past seasons, the Cubs always win the season series, by 5 or 6 games. The Red Sox and Yankees split the season this year with the Yankees 12 wins and the Red Sox 9. In 2005, its was NY 10 and Bos 9. And overpaid buddy, David Ortiz is way better than Aramis Ramirez or Derrek Lee, and they make more money a year than him. Big deal Manny makes $20 million a year, 40 HR, 120 RBI, and .320 average every year definetly makes up for it.

New York and Boston's rivalry has been around a lot more longer and has so much more history than the Cubs and Cards. From the '03 ad '04 postseason, to our famous brawl in 2004, to the Babe Ruth deal. The Red SOx and Yankees gather up more revenue each year for the rivalry games then the Cubs and Cardinals do.

No way. The Red Sox and Yankees are perennially among the top teams in baseball, for the most part. The Cubbies and Cards 1) are in the National League 2) Occasionally stink (2006 Cubs?) and 3) No Curse of the Bambino. There have been many subplots in their histories, the most recent being Johnny Damon, the A-Rod trade (Was first thought to be going to the Sox), and comeback in the 2004 ALCS.

Yankees and Sox is a historic rivalry, but a lot of that lay in the false premise of the curse of the Bambino. In truth this "curse" was just incompetent GMs in Boston. Still, I say Sox and Yanks thats a great matchup.

I agree the Yankees and Red Sox are "overpaid whiney supermodels" and that their rivalry is overcritized. Right now though that is the bigger rivalry, but maybe at the end of this year the Cubs and Cards rivalry might be as big as the Yankee Red Sox rivalry.

Cards vs Cubs. I could care less about the Yanks/Sox games. It all depends on what region you're from. If your from the midwest, the Cubs/Cards rivalry should be more important to you, unless you're like a few people I know that latched onto the Yankees at the end of the 90's because they were winning rings.

Sox Versus Yanks

No contest. This is the best rivalry in sports - all sportds. The history in this rivalry is sick. the fans hate each other to know end and there has been brawls and craziness. All since 1918 when Boston traded Ruth.

Murders Row
How about the Fisk Muson era
The "Zimmer" tossing by Pedro
Boones homer
The collapse of '04
Bernie walk off in 1999
Sheff in the outfield
Boston beats Mo (nobody beats Mo)
The Boston Massacre
Bucky Dent

I can go on forever...

This rivalry is awesome!

Most would say Yankees - Red Sox but if you examine the history of the so called "rivalry", you will find that when one team beats up on the other or more than 86 years, it's not a rivalry at all. The Yankees have feasted on the Red Sox with few exceptions ever since Babe Ruth came to the Yankees. As far as the Cubs vs Cards, that's a new one on me.
