my friend in texas recorded a show on a blank VCR tape and wanted to send it to me.it's not for money or anything like that he just wanted to know if it was illegal to send it ?.

I've never heard of anything like that being illegal. Maybe if money was changing hands, but you said that's not the case.

No, it isn't. It is illegal if you sell it. That is called copyright infringement, and the punishment is five years in prison and/or a $250,000 fine. But if you can find a way around it, I wish you good luck.

Its not illegal to tape a show as long as you don't recieve any kind of profit.

Unless he's selling it to you (like mentioned above), or you gather people together and charge them to watch what's on it, you are not breaking the law. It's perfectly alright.
