You would have to take small portions because your tongue would not be there to move the food to your teeth for chewing. You would have to tilt your head back to start the swallowing process and side to side to move the food to your teeth.

Otherwise you would need an all-liquid diet.

the tongue is simply a muscle that aids in passing food from the oral cavity into the esophagus; thus it is not neccesarily an important part of the digestive system, it just makes life easier; the main muscular support that cannot be done away with is peristalsis (wavelike contractions that assist in the movement of food through the digestive tract)

the digestive system can still work w/o a tongue. it will just be hard to get the food down there.

People on feeding tubes aren't using their tongues.

you just wouldn't taste anything or be able to mash up food properly.. probably be on an all-liquid diet.
