Ok here's the low-down: you'll get all kinds of bogus, unrealistic advice about cutting out salt 2 weeks before your periods, or exercising. All of that MAY help some people - but in most cases of serious cramps, it will NOT!

I've found after trying just about everything under the sun that the ONLY thing that helps me is Naproxen Sodium. You can get it from Walgreens under the generic name of Walproxen or ask your doctor for a prescription. I have a prescription for 500mg tablets and usually only need 1.

Now - if you have debilitating cramps to the point of being unable to function normally and/or massive bleeding, you should absolutely consult a doctor because you may have more serious problems. I have a friend who used to pass out from the pain until they diagnosed her with a particular condition (I don't remember the name) and treated her accordingly.

Hope this helps!

PS: The orgasm part is true. I've actually read in several magazines lately that they HAVE, finally, established that having sex during your period CAN have a positive effect on cramps. I definitely know it does in my case. Of course whether or not you and/or your partner are comfortable having sex during that time of the month is another matter altogether...

I have seen this question before and I responded only to get a violation ... BUT here I go again because I KNOW this works. Having an orgasm will relieve the cramps. Makes sense if you think about it.... blood will flow to that area of your body and away from the site of the cramps and then out...

I find that when it close to my period I crave SALT bad. If I use sea salt instead not so bad. Salt takes the water out of our body giving you cramps. Heating pad works good also. The girl was right about orgasms they do relieve cramps. But who wants to have sex when they are on there period. Think about it.

I would take midol. Exercising would help a little. Also taking birth control pills minimizes your period and gets rids of nasty cramps!
