lol wow.... everyone likes the icd2..... personally, I don't like intel. after time, it seems not to run quite as quickly as an AMD. AMD Typically runs a bit faster initially, but will run quicker on a constant basis than any intel. with intel, you seem to have periods of super speed, then periods of problems. I have personally had nothing but trouble with intel, and insist that my company uses nothing but AMD processors.
When AMD first came out, you could only find them as spare parts because they hadn't caught on in the bigtime world of computers... nobody knew what they were. Then, as they started picking up in sales, AMD, just like any other company that starts making money, started putting a little bit back into their product.... now, AMD is a very top of the line processor. My supplier has a hard time getting amd processors because of the cost... they run a bit higher in cost, but the true techie that has experience with them will know the difference, and understand why they are worth it.
the duo core technology simply doesn't add much to your experience, unless you run multiple high cpu programs at one time... ie: music, games, drafting programs, rendering programs, 3d games or sculptor programs, etc.
Everyone has their own opinion. You are intitled to your opinion. Do some more hands on research... you might be surprised what you find. You might like something TOTALY different.
good luck, hope that helps!!!

Go for the Core 2 Duo, these have been proved time and time again to be the best mobile processors, because of the low power usage, and features such as Enhanced Intel Speedstep, which keep the battery life up. The Core 2 processors are still top of the market when it comes to processors. Many do prefer AMD, but if it boils down to performance and quality choose Intel!

AMD. Period. They are actually the same gHz. value. Think about this, an Intel 2.0gHz = AMD 2.17 = PowerPc (not Intel-Mac) 2.3gHz. There is a little info for the day. Power ratings are not standardized, so Intel can rate their chips higher, and get away with it. You also have to take into account FSB rating AND voltage use. This is for a laptop after all. Also, power dissipation. Intel chips run VERY hot. They also can not be overclocked while remaining stable. I have an AMD 3000+ 1.8 gHz running at 2.13ghz, and have yet to break 48 degrees C idle/59 degrees C load. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

Intel Core 2 Duo.
That is what's in my laptop and it runs pretty quick, though it still won't run 3dmark any higher than 1 fps if at all lol, I know, that's the video card's fault anyways.

Core 2 Duo is better. It has 4 processors. Low voltage = cooler and consumes less energy. Specially when compared with the Athlon, because it was made for a desktop heh.

They're both similar, although Intel is better, you do pay more for them. In a test however, with the heat sink removed from the processors, both Intel processors survived while the AMD ones melted. But seeing as I doubt you are planning on doing that, it doesn't matter. But either way, i'd go with Intel.

Easy one, as that is a trick question rather. lol The X2 against which Intel Core 2 dual. Just like you can get a Intel chip to run better than a dual core, but when the dual core games and applications FINALLY come out then dual core will have the advantage and leave the single core behind. Yea, I know, and when the quad core chips come out. hahaha
Here is the spec charts now. It depends on what you want now and opinion. I would want the intel core 2 dual, reason that it can upgrade to 4 Gb of Ram. But you have to watch it too. One a one to one basis AMD is usally better in the run than intel. You just have to keep up with who is ahead of the game. Every week someone brings out a faster chip. In the long run, my next chip is AMD though. But I will get one to handle 4 GB though. lol
