Alex Ovetchkin and Martin St. Louis both are leading the lists for the most goals this season. Crosby isn't the leading scorer, he just has tons and tons of assists to give him his points. He did lead earlier this season, but then went on a slump, so now he is for sure not at the top of the leading scorers.
There is a differance between "Leading Scorer" and "Leading Scorer (as in points)". Crosby may have the most points, but he may not have the most goals. Wayne Gretzky had more assists than goals all time.
So, who ever said Crosby is the leading scorer is stupid. Look on the NHL website and click on "stats". You will see that he is leading in points, but not goals. That title belongs to someone else. So to put it this way, there IS a differance between "most points" and "leading scorer".
Go Flames Go!!!!!!!!!!
* I was Born on August 7, Sidney Crosby was born on August 7 also*

Just a difference of interpetation. Leading point getter is the same as saying leading scorer since every point counts towards a scoring title. No one says Crosby is the leading Goal Scorer just the leading scorer in points. And if you ask me you got some Crosby hate going on there. Until they deem a goal worth 2 points and an assist worth one Crosby will win alot more title as the leading scorer in hockey.

A real die hard fan (as you say you are) would know that the leading scorer means points and it's is Crosby. Yeah he is way overrated what are you talking about he's the one of the best in the NHL. Do you want him to score 150 points at this point?

Leading scorer by default means points, if they talk about most goals, they'd say Most Goals, or Leading Goal Scorer.. what do you expect them to say.. leading point getter or leading pointer? Of course not, that sounds retarded. I'm a die hard fan, and it's clear Gionta is not as good as Crosby. You're the only NHL fan that thinks he is over rated. You don't know anything about hockey apparently, considering you think Gionta or Parise is better than Crosby. I'm a Sabres fan, and I know more about New Jersey than you ever will, so shush please.

They say his is the leader scorer because he has the most points. If they were talking about goals, they would have said he is the leading goal scorer.

I don't know if he's overrated or not, he's a rookie. But he is going to be a real good player if not one of the best within the next few years to come.
a lot of people are putting the spotlight on him not only for his raw talent but because of his young age. real die hard hockey fans do know the truth and are happy to see someone that may be to caliber with Gretzky.

Because when people talk about the NHL's leading scorer, they are talking about the guy with the most points.
When people talk about the NHL's leading GOAL scorer, they're talking about the guy with the most goals.
That's why there are two different trophies.

"he has the most POINTS"
That would make him the leading scorer. Overall he has the most points in the league so it makes him the leading scorer.
