If you can convince me, then 10 points are yours!
Start with any tyre.
Manufacturer states the "correct" psi / bar pressure........
B*llucks.
There are so many variables from this, its stupid.
My example is as follows...........
Correct pressure (lets say) is 36 psi.
When?
Hot day unused?
or a cold day unused?
Norway or South Africa?
.......
then move the vehicle....
Friction builds up the temperature!

On a hot day in Jo'burg the tyre will reach a certain temp.

On a cold day in Oslo, its totally different.

Will a tyre ever get warm or hot on ice?

How many extra psi are in the tyre at 100 mph on a motorway in a hot climate?

Another Q.........

When the Police do a roadside stop check.
They test your tyre pressures...........

They are 100% inaccurate?!
Why?
'cause youve been driving on them and they've warmed up since leaving home!
also, differing tyre makes warm up diffently so each wheel / axle will have a differing figure!

I can go on and on on this subject.............

Tyre pressures are expected to be measured with "cold" tyres, i.e. after the car has sat for a long period of time.
Ambient temperature will have an effect, but how often do you have a single trip with a significant variation (more than 10°C) in ambient temperature? Have you ever set off on a trip in winter, and not arrived until summer, with no stops long enough to let the tyre cool down to ambient for a re-check of pressure?

Yes, the amount of air required to hold a tyre at 36psi will be different between Olso and Jo'burg, but the pressure is still the right pressure to take the weight of the car.

You are correct - sort of. Tyre pressure should really be set at operating temperature. Drive on the tyre until it reaches the correct temp, then adjust the temp. Unfortunately, the manufacturers don't advertise the warm pressure, or the operating temp. Also, a tyre with low pressure will heat up more, and so will have a greater pressure gain. This is why racers spend do much time adjusting pressures - because it affects how warm - therefore how sticky - the tyres will get.

However, the manufacturer's recommended pressure will get you in the ballpark, and will ensure that you won't damage the tyre from significant under-inflation or over-inflation. I always use this number to start with, then check my wear patterns and adjust accordingly.

Manufacturers (of cars or tyres, makes no difference) usually give cold tyre pressure instructions. However, unless you have an air compressor at home or live beside a petrol station with a long airline, how can the tyres be cold when you go to pump them? Probably makes sense in the health and safety dept.

Like another poster said you're just trying to justify the fact that you nothing but a common thief Most bands are struggling to just pay their bills there are just a few high paid celebs, the rest are barely making it, trying to pay their bills. touring is very expensive these days, if you aren't a top 10 act, I know of several great musicians, that have had to QUIT, because they couldn't make enough touring pay the bills. Bands should not HAVE to tour, just pay the thousand$ and hundred$ of thousand$ it cost$ to record, a lot of bands don't tour as much, it's hard work, living on the road, you have no life, why should they HAVE to tour for 10 months, just to support your habit of stealing. Touring doesn't pay all the others involved in the recording process. The producers, The Engineers, the backup sings studio musicians the mixers the masterers They all wrked for months too, and don't get paid from the tour. If you want music to be free, YOU spend hundreds of hours writing, recording, mixing producing, engineering, remastering, doing all the work, then spend all the money recording etc, an YOU give away it away for free? your "rant" is flawed, do YOU work for free for months?

.............. and you did !

But you are right.

The 'recommended' pressures are a 'mean' so can be totally wrong.

It comes down in the end, to common sense.

**If stopped by police and you are charged with having incorrect pressures, you can dispute it - and win.

I was once stopped and charged with not having my motorcycle chain correctly tensioned. (Wrong)
His test was to kick it up and down.
He couldn't tell me what the correct tension should be.
The case was thrown out of court.
What a waste of time and money.

**They do check tyre pressures in The UK.
