If you're patient, a laptop may turn up on eBay which is local enough for you or someone you know to collect, so avoiding the rough shipping. If the seller has very strong feedback (both quantity and quality) then it may be worth taking the risk. I bought a Lappy off of eBay a few months ago and it's really good... but just remember that lappys simply don't last as long as desktops, so if it's already 2 or 3 years old, then it may only last another 2years before the mobo fries itself.

Lets just say if they are not local and if you cant pick it up in person, then dont bother. Harddrive are not meant to be moved around and we all know UPS or whatever service just tosses their boxes, my packages always look like they got kicked from one state to another or the driver used it as a pillow during his lunch. So if i were you, buying delicate hardware like a laptop is one of those ehhhhhhhhh... cross your fingers and hope all is well kinda deal

I would not buy one off ebay unless i saw it in person. Who knows what condition it is in, they might say that it is like new but you cant see the insides. Aka the mobo might be cracked and might not say anything. Be careful and dont get scammed.

NO, because there are usually problems with the machine, and that is why the person wants to unload it.
