I assume you bought a Mac Pro. It has two different types of audio out ports. One is for optical digital audio and for that you need special speakers but the brand could be any. The other port is a standard headphone out port and for that you can use any speakers that are designed to plug into a headphone jack. The link below shows pictures, including one that shows the back ports.

the first actual reaction is nice. you could position it lower than the table in case you opt for. Technically, you could position a subwoofer everywhere you opt for. compared to different audio equipment, a subwoofer isn't a directional speaker. it gained't degrade the sound high quality by any skill with regard to putting it right here or there. in the homestead theater international, the subwoofer is many times positioned in a nook removed from each and every thing else to strengthen the bass. One caveat although, in case you position it lower than the table and the properly of the subwoofer is in trouble-free words inches removed from the table, you would have problems with vibrations.
