that's one of several possible motives for such talk. Complaining about busyness can also be part of a martyr complex (which also signifies "self-importance").
People can also speak about how busy they are to express gratitude for their sense of feeling useful to others, in which case this would strike me as a positive trait.

It certainly helps some people feel better about themselves. This may not be true in all cases, however. It is difficult to discern the psychological motives of volitional acts.

well.. in some cases yea.. when ppl mention how busy their life is.. it makes u feel like " wow what a busy person " and u feel like he/she is in some ways responsible for his/her Job.. so responsible ppl makes u feel good..so that would makes them important but.. pretending is always sucks.. if someone is just pretending that he/she has a busy life that would makes them less important and just pretenders ppl
