People buying "faux (fake) fur" trying to do the morally right thing have now found out from the American humane society the fur isn't fake, but real dog or cat fur.

People buying chocolate now have to try to find out from the chocolate manufacturer if the cocoa beans were picked by adults http://uk.news.yahoo.com/14022007/325/lovers-urged-eye-ethical-cocoa.html in order to be moral and ethical.

My mom says consumers and investors believing they are doing the right thing is enough and that people shouldn't have to check into every possible detail and angle, which isn't always possible to do anyway. She says the people who mislead or with hold info (labelling fur as fake or exploiting children to pick beans or make clothes) bear the burden of responsibility.

I think we need to educate ourselves and not trust corporations.

What do you think????

Individual people can't always make the time or effort to check out all the facts and angles. That's what good investigative journalism is for. Yes, we need to educate ourselves more, but the average citizen doesn't have the credentials (or the insider knowledge) to dig up the secrets many corporations hide, but a member of press often does.

Your mom is right if she lives in Utopia. I don't think we do, so check it out if it's on your concience. You have the technology at your fingertips and a brain in your head to tell you that nobody gives you anything for nothing. Why do kids in asia work a two day shift every day for half a days pay so that we can pay a fortune to 'look cool'? Why does a good cotton shirt from the supermarket cost much the same as a bottle of beer from just down the road?

You're right... people shouldn't HAVE to check every possible detail out, we should be able to trust someone when they tell us what something is.

It is very sad today that so many corporations only care about one thing - profits - they do not give a flying **** if anyone or anything has to suffer in order to make those profits.

People in the know of these details need to speak up.

And by all means make phone calls and find things out that are important to you. Just be careful, not all stories you read on the net are true.

I don't think anyone would be happy with cat or dog fur. Dogs and cats don't have good quality fur. To rough. I suspect that story is false.

Do you mean 'who is to blame' or who is responsible?

Blame is usually afforded to just one person or group of people. Anyone who is involved in any way has responsibilities. We can and do take our responsibilities to the level we believe is correct for us. That's what your mum is doing.
