People buying "faux (fake) fur" trying to do the morally right thing have now found out from the American humane society the fur isn't fake, but real dog or cat fur.

People buying chocolate now have to try to find out from the chocolate manufacturer if the cocoa beans were picked by adults

My mom says consumers and investors believing they are doing the right thing is enough and that people shouldn't have to check into every possible detail and angle, which isn't always possible to do anyway. She says the people who mislead or with hold info (labelling fur as fake or exploiting children to pick beans or make clothes) bear the burden of responsibility.

I think we need to educate ourselves and not trust corporations.

What do you think????

Oh, a very dodgy area. I'll have a think.

Back again.
Things should be labelled accurately. If it is fur, then it should say so on the lable.

Child labour is a much more tricky area. A few years back, there was a big brough ha ha about child labour being used to in show factories in Portugal. Everybody stopped buying Portuguese shoes, the industry collapsed and they were all out of work.

There are so many judgment areas, it isn't black and white. What about organic soya beans (that have been grown in fields created by clearing rainforests, and then flown 10,000 miles)?

You are correct. We should educate ourselves, but even then it becomes a judgment call.

I totally agree with you. We shouldn't follow these corporations blindly. We can make our own decisions and some of us choose not to look into things while others care enough to do research on their own to help a total stranger or an animal. I have never heard of that coco bean thing but I am going to start being a lot more concious about things now.

I think that your concerns about animal fur, and whether or not cocoa beans were picked by adults are insignificant when you consider abortion is this country.

I can't understand how people get all concerned about saving the whales, and the rain forests, but couldn't care less about the slaughter of over a million babies every year.

Thank you for that. I do buy fair trade where there's an option but I really didn't know about the fur thing! omg! Well I don't have any fake fur at least!

Education = better judgment
Corporations = business
Business = liability
Liability = fines = justice

Business = liability. No one should buy products from any company that deceives custumers.

Poverty = child labour/employment slavery. No one should buy products produced by children.

I very much agree with what you say except for one thing,...our stoicism and moral rectitude deserves to be rewarded by those who govern us, and those who seek to abuse us through the offices of those who govern us.

God bless you for your concern, but please accept that this struggle for the decency of humankind is not an episode of 'Ugly Betty'...it is a life long commitment.

I think that you are going down a slippery slope that you will eventually lose yourself and possibly your mind if you keep it up.
