The serpentine belt was replaced, and it still squeals, but not as loud at the moment. My mechanic said to give it a day of long driving because they sprayed stuff on the pulleys that may have to work through and it takes a while to dry in cold weather. He said if it keeps doing it after driving awhile, to bring it back and that it might be the water pump. Any thoughts?

chevy/GMC usually need their tensioner pulley replaced after so many miles. i work in a lube shop and cant tell you how many of them ive come across that the tensioner's internal spring is weak (from age and use) and it doesnt keep the correct pressure on the belt to keep it as tight as it should be. id replace that before the water pump, especially if it got quieter after doing the belt. next time you have the car running, pop the hood and carefully look under it at all the pulleys. you should see one on the passenger side of the engine and its a small pulley facing backwards on a kinda metal stem and the belt goes around it. if that is shaking back and forth and not steady at idle, then your tensioner is going bad. that would be my suggestion either way to replace that first.

I have heard waterpumps squeal if they are bad, but why would the guy put belt dressing on a brand new belt? thats a no no, it's also possible the tensioner is bad not tightening the belt enough.
