To answer the first part of your question/statement - YES! He saw it as his duty to work on animal conservation projects which help to educate the people! As he was taken from us while working on yet another documentary - he died in the line of duty. I just wish they could have finished that specific part of the documentary, if not re-filmed with another expert (No I do not want to see the footage of Steve's death). Instead they cut out any and all references to stingrays for the televised show.

He died getting too close to wild animals and scaring them. In Australia we cheered the stingray. I know he was loved by many in the USA but not here. He had some fans here but the last program about him on TV saw people changing channels in the hundreds of thousands.
