I guess this was coming from the notion that unhappy people like it when everyone else unhappy. There is sort like a bitterness in people when they see someone is happy and content. They have kind of like an odd eerie expectation or eerie hope for those who are happy to fail into sadness. Misery loves company.....

Well, with the way you worded it, it isn't a fear of happiness, but a protective thought that occurs when someone hasn't had much at all. I do the same thing all the time. If things start to look up, which isn't very often, I start to daydream about best-case scenarios right away, and fear that something will happen to the situation and ruin it. Guess what? None of these things have ever amounted to anything serious. So, I always start to get skeptical when things go well, for I know they will end. I absolutely know they will end. The saying "Dare to dream" is so true. It is definitely a dare, and definitely a risk of being disappointed.

It is very possible. I believe the reason, or part of it may be because some people may have gone through a very turbulent life so far, and if they are getting help and finding that happiness is knocking at the door, it can be a scary thing because they don't know what thats really like, or they don't trust it. I think that we are most comfortable with the familiar, even if the "familiar" is unhappiness, or turmoil. But if thats really all they know, then its where they find comfort and the happiness that is waiting, is hard for them to get used to.

I firmly believe a person can fear happiness. It's almost as if it's an invitation to further disaster....there are times I still think, "How long is this going to last? It feels so good, something bad must be just around the corner."

Being happy is a wonderful thing. Life takes different twists and turns -- take the happiness away and you feel lost because of it. Yes, it's possible to fear happiness but it is very very unhealthy.

well its immpossible to reject fear pain suffering. but theres nothin to be ashamed about . first of all u have to understand what is joy and happiness. joy and happiness is something that u experience after fear, pain and suffering. no sufferings no happiness. there shud always be a balance . dont u think that life will be boring without sufferings and pain ? these things are necessary because they increase the value of happiness. life is always fair in the end my friend. so the more u toil the more u undergo pain to achieve something. the achievement will be sweeter than ever . u'll be happiest at that point of time .

I think that it's possible to fear happiness because if your up you go down, you don't go up any farther. When happy... you know that sadness is coming, so if you don't experience happiness, you won't experience sadness. You'll just be BLAH

when you start feeling happiness your scared either because you don't know if its real or because your afraid it wont last long by the time you realize you are really happy its already to late because happiness doesn't last very long it just passes by.
