Remember it doesn't have to be a forward, there are plenty of good D men and how about Johan Holmqvist.

Evgeni Malkin of the Penguins is the best rookie this year.

Nevertheless, honorable mention goes to:

Anze Kopitar - Kings
Jordan Staal - Penguins
Matt Carle - Sharks
Mike Smith - Stars

Well, theres Kopitar on the Kings - he has done very well for being on a bad team and really has a lot of potential - the Kings would be stupid to get rid of him

Theres Malkin on the Penguins - who leads rookies in points and really plays well, but is also on a decent team

Theres Smith on the Stars - a very good rookie goalie who seems to have a massive amount of potential

And finally, theres Kessel on the Bruins - not as many points as others, but plays well, is 4 for 4 in the shootout - all game winners - and has had to bounce back from cancer

Overall - I'd give the Calder to Malkin if it was given today

I would say Malkin is at the top of my list, but there a few other players than may sneak up and take the Calder Trophy from him. One of these players could be Alexander Semin, Anze Kopitar, or Jordan Staal.

I would say the top three are Evgeni Malkin, Anze Kopitar, and Jordan Staal.

Jordan Staal, I hate the penguins and think that some of their players are overrated until they prove themselves. But Jordan Staal is the best rookie out there because he knows what to do with the puck and knows how to score and set up guys.

Evgeni Malkin hands down, yes there are plenty of other d men, but malkin is physical, scores, plays two sided hockey, and is just a pure force on the ice.

1. E. Malkin
2. A. Kopitar
3. J Staal

Thats is how it is gonna finish, Malkin is better that Kopitar, more pts less games! Isn't this almost the same Kings team that was 7 games over .500 last year and almost made the playoffs!

i think it's travis zajac he might not score all the time but he can make plays and he handles the puck like a veteran..but of course malkin is gonna be the rookie of the year just cause he can score....he can't do anything else though..just score. and holmqvist is good..but he's been inconsistant. as soon as he gets his routine down and becomes more comforatble in the crease. i also think johny oduya is a great rookie. he played in the sweds. league befoer coming here. he's a d-man for the NJD
