Would you alert someone such as the police or animal control if you knew someone or someone's kids or pets are being physically abused?

I probably would. It would bother my conscience if I did not, because I am a survivor of domestic abuse. No one should have to endure such crap!

Well, you could do it anonymously with the children, with Child Protective Services in your area. You can remain anonymous and just give specific details as to address, peoples names. Child abuse is no laughing matter, you would be protecting the children and the spouse, because may be there are other issues why the spouse will not come forward. As you may known, domestic violence isn't only about physical abuse, DV abusers are known to have total control over their victim, and they can't leave for financial reasons etc, as well.

YEs, I grew up in an abusive home. My parents were abusive mentally physically and every other way to one another, while just my mom abused me. It was in the early 80s through the 90s and when the police were called they would just listen to my dad and it would not matter what my mom looked like, you know black eyes bloody nose, they just turned their heads. Now me and my brothers are so screwed up! I am in a marriage that more and more looks like I need to run from, but I just wished that someone would have gotten me out of there when I was a child before my head was so messed up about marriage and life. Police are horrible to call, because in my experience, they just listen to the man and told me to leave even though he had lied to them twice while they were here. If that abusive person has money, or knows the "right" people then they will get out of it. Now if it is an animal or a child being abused call your local child protection service, and animal control. The system takes care of children and animals better then they do if it is domestic violence, and then when the cops leave it is when the real hell begins!

Yes, animal abuse is very serious. Call Animal Control first to see what they recommend, they might even direct you to the police. They can be arrested for animal cruelty.

If you think children are being abused report this immediately to the police. As a survivor of abuse, you should understand the that time is of the essence. Being in that home a moment longer could get them killed.

Absolutely. It is your obligation as an American citizen to look after the well being of other people. If you know or have a suspiscion that something is going on, you should definitely alert the police or animal control. If something worse would happen, you would never be able to forgive yourself.

I wish someone would have when I was married. BUT to tell you the truth once the cops got there the abused spouse would be so scared that they probably wouldnt press charges anyways. IF it were the kids I wouldnt hesitate at all.

Yes, absolutely.

It's against the law for the abuser and it's unconscionable for you to sit idly by while someone else is being abused.

Over Christmas, I was over at my parent's. A lady came all bloodied up to the door at 4:am crying. My mom and stepdad were in shock and didn't know what to do. They woke me up and I looked at them in shock! I said, "Call the police!" Without any hesitation.

I know exactly what I would do in this situation and I highly encourage anyone who is in the position to help to do it.

Yes, if i knew for sure or had proof, then I would make an anonymous tip to the police or animal control. But if I didn't know for sure I wouldn't.
