Wikipedia says.....

"One Night in Bangkok" is a song originally released in 1984 by Murray Head, and later remixed for release by Vinylshakerz in 2005. The original version was one of the main tracks in the 1986 musical Chess, and was written by former ABBA members Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, along with Tim Rice. The release was a hit across the globe, making #12 in the UK charts, and becoming a number one single in many European countries, such as West Germany (as it then was) and Switzerland.

A dance version of the song was recorded by Robey in 1984, which peaked at #5 on the US Billboard Dance Chart late that year.[1] However, Head's version went on to become one of the biggest sellers of 1985 in the United States of America, where it peaked at #3 in May 1985. In the context of its worldwide popularity, the song was a relatively minor hit in Murray Head's native UK, though it would probably have made the UK Top 10 had it not peaked in a Christmas period when singles sales were exceptionally high.

I grew up in South Jersey. I grew up with Hy Lite and WIBG radio 99 Philadelphia. (Hy just passed away Nov. 17th). Talk about sock hops. Hy use to bring his cavalcade of music to the Mt. Holly fire house every other Saturday night. For two dollars you and your best girl or guy could dance to the top 40 and even see as many as three live acts on the same card. (Refreshments included). Ernie Evans, (Chubby Checker), the Orlons, and Bobby Rydell, just to name a few. In between Hy would play the songs of the day. I got to know Hy over the years as I became part of the media after college, in the Delaware Valley area. Those were wonderful times and I will always cherish them. Hy would close the show with, "Goodnight sweetheart well it's time to go". Today I'm a widower living in Florida and am finally going to get my chance to see "Jersey Boys" in Tampa this coming March. I'm really looking forward to it. What part of Jersey did you grow up?

Murray Head had the hit with it. He has albums released in the past few years. He did a Greatest Hits package that is NOT recommended by most because he reworked the songs into completely different versions.

The song is from the musical "Chess" by the two guys from ABBA. Murray Head sang the version released as a single in the 80s.
