When I lived in Manchester my ex partner and I found a wallet in the city centre containing lots of money and the ID of a Thames Valley detective. At the time we were poorer than the proverbial church mice and we were sorely tempted to keep the money at least. However, we handed it in at the Police Station in central Manchester, mainly because we saw a copper looking at us. Still, honesty turned out to be best policy, because a few weeks later we get a letter from the Thames Valley Chief Constable with a fairly substantial reward.

I found £240 in an envelope that had fallen down the back of a cupboard but it must have been mine & I'd forgotten about it so I didn't report it to the police.

A wallet with a wad of money in it at the supermarket, gave it to customer services and left my phone number, the guy phoned me up half an hour later to say he'd left wine and chocs for me and to thank me so much as the money was for his kids Christmas pressies.

I went to a restaurant with my family and I found a woman's pocketbook under my seat. My niece told me, " Oh it's your lucky day." And I replied "No it's her lucky day." I took the pocketbook to the police station.

One month after I went food shopping at my local supermarket with my rent money and my food money in my pocketbook. I had over $1,200.00 in cash. I was on my way to deposit some money at the bank when I changed my mind and went straight to the supermarket. As I walked down the isle I heard some women call my name, over and over again. I walked toward this woman and said " Yes may I help you?" She had my driver License in her hand and said to me "yep this is you," and handed me my pocketbook. The strap on my pocketbook had popped and my bag fell on the ground without me noticing it. Honesty is the best policy. What goes around comes around.

A dog. So i took it to the police station. I also found a tenner once, surprisingly, that didn't get a trip to the cop shop.
