Now note, i am an independant that normally leans towards libral views, but this one i am and always have been against. Its a very discriminative entity, unintentionaly.

Basicly, Its called Afirmative Action, refered to as \"Reverse Discrimination\", Instead of discriminating against the minority, we discriminate against the majority.

Meaning, The Workplace, Educational institute and any organization that hires people are forced to follow a quota for how many blacks, hispanics, women, etc. Must be admitted. Now dont get me wrong, I beleive discrimination is there, and i beleive its wrong (which is why i disagree with this act) But most of the country and workmen are not racist at all. Thats why you see so many management jobs going towards arabs and asains.

I have no problem with a diverse community, Its that we are admitting lower qualified personel to our colleges and our doctors offices etc. Would you like to have a man who shouldnt have gotten into medical school, who is underqualified perform major heart surgery on your child just because he is of another race? Of course not. Do you see it right that a person gets 20 points for being, black, hispanic, indian etc. while only getting 1 point for an outstanding essay, 1-5 points for being a state, regonal and national leader, in a 150-point system? They are getting just as many, sometimes more points then being a scholorship athelete, How is this fair, just because your black, you are a scholorship athelete? bah

I agree with giving people equal advantages like when comming from a family where a person\'s education was limited becuase of there status, they should get thoughs points (its already in place, another 20 points). But basicly what we are doing here is shifting the burdon from one generation to the next, the white person that scored had a 3.8 gpa, outstanding sat\'s gets beaten out by a 2.7 gpa with average essay, minorty. That minority, will suceed, become wealthy, while the white individual that deserved and worked twice as hard, was twice as smart becomes another middle/lower class individual leading to more racial hate and a shift, to a \"Reverse Reverse Discrimination\"

Right now we have 77% of this country being white, 12.9% Black, 4.2% Asian, 1.5% Native American with the other %\'s scatered to various groups. Of course its seen as \"White American\" It is infact still a white america, 77% of the population, they should own about 77% of capital. Infact they own Just about 80-85%, Give it a couple years and as it has it will continue to balance itself out.

What Afirmative Action is leading to a bigger split, then this minimal one is. should have 77% of the population own 60% of the goods, while we let 12% of the population own 30&, and 4% own 10% of the capita, We are lessening our unity, we are creating a bigger divide between our peoples and the races. This is a backdoor either way you look at it, while it acts as a wall, making us feel warm and cheery on the inside, it actually is hurting ourselves on both the outside and on the inside indirectly.

I havnt even began to touch on the subject, Im just curious to hear what everyone elses comments are.

I actually have been turned down for jobs and was told that "we are only hiring minorities."

That shocked me, As I wasn't even given a chance for the job just because of the color of my skin. It is a shame that they hire just beacuse of skin color instead of qualifications.

So so wrong.

It was an social experiment that failed...it insulted blacks and whites... A black that was hired only because of affirmative action could not take pride in getting a job. A white that was denied a job because of this policy was discriminated against. There are pros and cons to all policies that try to equalize a society..this one just didn't quite fill the bill, but it was better than any solution up to its time. The real answer is equal education where everyone actually learns, is not baby sat in school, and parental care in the child's education. As long as minority groups continue to set themselves apart with language and action, there will be discrimination.

I completely agree with you. Why can't people see that reverse discrimination is just as bad as discrimination against minorities? They're both wrong. If a problem does exist, it is with equal education. When I was going to public schools, it always seemed that the minorities were given the same opportunities that the majority enjoyed, but from what I hear it isn't the same everywhere else. Getting a job based on merit makes the most sense to me. Discrimination does not justify reverse discrimination. They are both discrimination!

The laws should punish the places of employment in which the prejudice exists, not the competent people who are turned down for jobs because of their skin color.

I really think you should look more into this subject. It seems you have let a few bad personal experiences ruin you. The more educated you are on this topic the better able you would be to accept it. It can be complicated to understand.

The first thing to realize is that reverse discrimination only exists in theory. To have discrimination one must have power. Power for their racism/predjudice to affect another group of people. Since White people make up the majority of the population and make up nearly all of the people in power in this country they have the power to affect other populations. People of color do not have the power to affect the majority of the population in this same way. It's called hegemony.

Second unless you are ready to decrease the poverty gap and end racism then affirmative action will always be needed. People of color generally make up the majority of people in poverty. This is not of their own fault. It's because they can't get the jobs you are talking about. They can't get them because they can't afford education and because of racism. A White person is still MUCH more likely to get hired than a person of color. And White people, White men especially still make more money. For example White women still only make seven cents to the White mans dollar in the same position. And there is a glass celieng for people of color and women. This means that they just WON'T get promoted beyond a certain point. You know this is true because the White population makes up the majority of people in power. It is a never ending cycle. If you want to get rid of affirmative action you have to fight poverty and racism. If you don't want to get in and fight for that then you don't have anything to complain about. Take action or do nothing and be quite.

And your statistics are a little skewed. And your viewpoints behind them are as well. What makes you think that just because more people in this country are White they should own most of the capital. In fact these numbers should not be equal.
And what you are talking about, the numbers evening out, is only speculation. Right now the top percentage of people with wealth and money are White.

This nation is supposed to support all people. So get on the boat, help all people and stop trying to protect just your ethnic group.

And to be honest, if you want to decide who should have most the jobs and money, I can give you one opinion: Native Americans, it is our land after all.

We wouldn't have to have affirmative action if racism didn't exist. It's one of those things where the few ruin it for the many.

No, it isn't "fair," but it also isn't fair that American citizens are discriminated against and are not given the same opportunities as others because of the color of their skin.

yes. this is why I don't believe in it except as possible a temporary measure to seed a biased system. there is something fundamentally wrong if you need to permanently have such a system in place.

Affirmative Action should stay. I strongly believe in it. If white society was not so racist in the first place, then maybe we would not need it at all. Affirmative Action provides opportunities to individuals, who would not normally have the chance to succeed. What is wrong with that?

Boy oh boy, Now we aren't even considered people anymore. We're just 12% of the population that without Affirmative Action would share in 0% of the country's wealth! I didn't know a helping hand would be considered racist!

It is actually saying that blacks can't possibly compete with others so the government makes business hire them.
