ipods will only hold movies in m4 format. u can use p2p programs like limewire or something to download movies then use a converter to convert them into mp4 format. videora ipod converter is a free converter, but winxmedia is a lot better, even tho its not free. for dvds, u also need a converter. google it for a free converter, or else buy a converter. the instructions for dvd to ipods is pretty much playing the dvd in the converter and then pressing the record button. i doubt ull be able to convert dvds to mp4 without money, but u can try.

I downloaded mine from limewire, once they were finished downloadng (this took a LONG time), I would drag the video into my intunes video folder (There should be a folder for your videos under "my videos" or something (Or itunes music folder), but then I used PodMaxx (availabe in circuit city) to convert them to MP4, after converting theM i draged the finished video (i believe you can specify where you would want the output to be put) and drag that into your library.

You can download them from Google Video, or even LimeWire, as long as they are formatted as mp4. Your best bet would be Google Video though.
