Because they are gullible enough to fall for Hallmark's marketing ploys.

Well, the other option is to believe that people wants to give and receive
LOVE & FRIENDSHIP. And the date is February 14 for this matter, so,
I think is a good ocassion to remember friends, family, neighbors, etc.
In regard to the commercial part, what's not commercial? It is up to us to be smart and creative to give the best of us. A word of hope, a flower, a smile, and why not a jewel, perfume
See the positive on it and ENJOY! Have a Happy Day of Love and Friendship.

I dislike Valentine's Day. True, it is commercial, but it could work as an anniversary for some people. But, I really don't support it because if you love someone, don't you love them as much as you can every single day, 365 days a year?! And, no, I don't dislike Valentine's Day because I don't have one, it's just the idea of it is kind of shallow. Just an opinion.

Mostly everyone would like to have or feel special at least one day out the 365days a year(more or less)! Even though I think that if you really love someone, you would not wait for some Holiday to show it. You'll want to make that person feel great, special, good about them and make each day as full filling as possible!...and you don't have to have anybody to feel loved, as long as you have at least one friend is more than enough to be happy!...Happy Valentine's Day to all......

For the people selling stuff, it's commercial. But on an individual basis, it's another "fun" day to say you care about people in your life in a fun way. A soft red bear, I bouquet of flowers, a homemade Valentine... just another fun way of saying "I love you" and/or "I care."

You're absolutely right. I gave $78 yesterday to have a dozen roses delivered, and it's the last time. I think everyone should boycott the florists until they get their prices back down to a reasonable level. That's $6.50 per rose!!!
When you can go to various places, like the grocery store, and get them for $20 - $30 per dozen, then that tells me they are just gouging the consumer. If it were gasoline Congress would be looking into it.

All holidays are commerical. Valentine's day is fun though, it's all about love. It can be from a single rose, to however you want to express your love. So, have a great Valentine's Day ~~~~

It is, but i don't feel strongly enough about making a statement about what is commerically wrong - otherwise i would have no christmas, easter, valentines day, halloween etc.
AND, it is much more important to me to make my boyfriend happy than it is to make a point about commericality.

It is a holiday created by the card and chocolate companies. If you love someone you should show them everyday not just February 14th.
