personally i dont know how to put a photo on it!!! I would guess though that a few people on here are nasty enough in answering perfectly normal questions without seeing peoples photos. They could be even more cruel if there is a personal photo on. I like looking at photos of people, but some would have to ridicule others Everyone is equal with just an avatar, and I think it should stay that way.

I believe it is because of a variety of reasons. One is that one might not feel comfortable with their picture on the internet - 1) if they are attractive - they may risk some weirdo seeing their picture and trying to contact them or stalk them, 2) if they don't look as good as they think they should, they may not want others to see the "real them" or 3) they may feel egotistical putting their picture on the internet. I, personally, rather right or wrong, can't help but feel that it takes a lot of guts to be comfortable with yourself enough to put your picture on. (i'm an avatar person myself). and of course, being a girl (woman) and being probably overly sensitive - i would cry if someone said something about me looking old or ugly or anything like that. My cousin and her daughter (my niece) use their pictures on the net for a variety of things....and i think that is okay if they are comfortable with it. They also put a lot of pictures on myscene.com....which is a really cool way to keep up with family and friends alot of pictures of my niece's daughter's (ages 1 and 3) and their 2 dogs.

because there are a lot of wackos out there on the internet. i noticed that when i had a female avatar and a girly name, i got more thumbs down than nowadays when i'm masquerading as Gumby! People are very visual and love to lump others in categories. I think it is safer to hide behind an avatar or other graphic. just my opinion.

For me,i dont think its a real good idea to post your pic all over the net,because y'all couldn't cope with the vision i am,yeah right,seriously though,these computer hackers and such are so clever that the next time you turn on your computer,you'll see a picture of yourself with your legs round your neck an someone sticking things in places you've not allowed,saying that my avatar is a pretty good likeness.Well my hair is long,lol

It's not safe to put your real picture on the Internet. You are more likely to be preyed upon. That is also why you should not use your real name or give out your contact information. It's just not safe.

Honestly - because I hate pictures of myself, in fact I don't have any, I'm always the one behind the camera, so a cartoon will have to do.
