What is the deal with this show- I have never seen it. Are they all good guys, or are some of them evil? Did they always have powers or did they just wake up one day and surprise they could do crazy things

It is a mix of good and bad guys with powers. The viewers don't know the history of all the characters. One character can turn himself invisible and he appears to have known about his abilities for quite some time Others thought this this inviso-man was dead but he simply made himself 'disappear'.
Others didn't seem to know about their abilities until later in life.
One of the character is a hitman. And didn't know what she could do until years after she had her first child. This character however has two personalities and only one can control their powers.
For others, they discover their ability as a teen such as the cheerleader with the super healing abilities.
One character is actually still pre-teen and already can control his abilities quite well.
One character was a drug addict. For awhile, he can only use his abilities when he was under the influence of drugs. He has since learn to control it without drugs.
One character can fly. His agility in the air suggests he knew about it for quite sometime but the viewers don't really know for sure. This character deliberately tries to hide his powers.

This is my favorite show right now. You can pretty much tell the good characters and the bad characters, but there are several who are right in the middle and you have no idea which way they are going to go. There is even one character - her "ability" is that she has a split personality and her other self has super strength - that has one personality being good and the other bad.
There are a few websites which are really good to catch up if you want to start watching. It really is too much to put in one answer....I highly recommend the unified theory by deas nuts on the nbc.com/heroes website (just click on message boards once you are there).
This show is about how they are finding out about their powers. Each characters with abilities has their own stories - and some of them intermingle (like an adopted child finding her birth parents, who also have abilities). There is often this other organization trying to find all the heroes and do stuff to them (they seem to be the bad guys, but you don't really know). AND there is an Indian geneticist who is also trying to track them down and educate them on what their abilities are all about and why they have them.

They are people who were born with special abilities and grew into them as they aged. They have a range of behaviors as found in the general population from extremely evil, to semi good, but weak, to undecided, to ineffective, to stupid, to smart. It seems like a number of the new shows these days, the writers and producers are not sure where they are going with the story and seem to make it up as the go. This makes it rather tedious to watch from week to week, because the story line wanders all over the map and ends up not much further along than the previous hour. Often it seems very little forward progress toward a climax is achieved even after several weeks. In fact it seems in the show at the present we are further away from where we were headed at first and the general direction has been completely ignored for the last few weeks.

Some good and some bad -- they have new ones every episode.
The new ones usually end up died. The major characters are hanging in there.
They have always had their powers but are just finding out that there are others like them.
You should watch the reruns when they come on - its a great show and moves pretty fast.
Get the popcorn and enjoy!!

a few are evil, most are good, and one lady, nikki, is good, but her "power" is that her evil twin sister jessica takes over her body. they always had their powers, but i think they became stronger once they realized how to use them. except for hiro- the guy who can control time. i dont know whats up with him. then, theres whole families of heros, like nikki's husband can walk through walls, and their son can control electronic things. also, just last episode, claire, the cheerleader who has healing powers, found her mom (who can make fire) and dad (who can fly). you should watch it!!!

There are a couple of bad guys mixed in there but it seems that the show just shows them learning their powers now, not as babies. Kind of weird now that you mention it!

omg, the best show ever. u HAVE to watch it, its on scifi 2, ull love it. K so some of the eroes turned bad, now they fight the good ones or, are trying to get their powers. And practically they just woke up one day and discovered that they have them.
