My grandmother told me when my daughter was a baby and colicky to make her some Onion Tea. It worked wonders. I have since raised many babies on Onion Tea. It is a natural tummy soother.

Use only white onions. Quarter a peeled white onion, put one or two quarter in a pan and cover with water. Boil several minutes. Cool. You can store the Onion Tea in the fridge until you need some. It will keep for several days. Just warm up an oz and give the baby 1/2 oz before feeding and 1/2 oz after feeding if needed.

You can give a baby Onion Tea anytime they are fussy. You can not give them too much, it will not hurt them.

When I ask my pediatrician about it he said, "I can't say it will work, but it certainly won't hurt them".

If you try this I promise it will work. Continue using, don't stop after just 1 or 2 tries. I have never had a baby refuse Onion Tea.

Those are two separate questions. The various things people have already stated, like Mylicon, Grip Water, home remedies, etc. can be used to address gas. However, colic is a different thing. A baby that has colic does not cry because he or she has gas. The cause of colic is unknown, but classic colic is typical described as unexplained crying in an otherwise healthy baby that lasts for one or more hours per day, practically every day, for the first several months of baby's life. Colic typically presents at 2-3 weeks of age and can abruptly stop at about 3 mos. of age. Things to do to soothe a colicy baby include swaddling, rythmic movement (swings, rocking, walking), holding baby against your chest facing out, shushing (making a loud shhhhhhhh sound practically in baby's ear). Another hallmark of a colicy baby is that the crying typically starts and ends around the same time each day. My daughter was colicy and you could practically set your watch by it. Outside of the colicy time, the baby is also typically happy and content, which was also exactly my experience. Anyway, long winded answer to your short question....Good luck!

I use Baby's Bliss Gripe Water. It works great. I ordered it online at Drugstore.com. I paid a little over $13 including shipping. It works wonders on those nasty hiccups too.

My mother used to put a few drops of kummel (a caraway liqueur) on a bit of sugar on the tip of a spoon, and that worked for both me and my son. If you would prefer not to use alcohol, bruise caraway seeds in a mortar and pestle or with the back of a spoon, then steep them in boiling water. The resultant 'tea' should do the trick - once it's cooled down, of course!

The plain bottle of gripe water, or Infacol is also excellent.

I was that way when i was little. Put a heating pad on their stomach, but don't leave it on for to long so it will burn them.
