when I list all the things I need, does this mean that I need to pay for all of this and then the store will give me a free gift??? Cause someone mention to me that I can pick anything I want for free? Or by buying all the stuff for my baby in the store, I will get a free gift? Or I'll get a discount for buying the stuffs? "which is which?"

A registy is a list of things you would like to have for the baby. It is a tool so that if anyone asks you what you might like for a shower gift, you can tell them where you're registered.

You don't have to register (I never have!) and you shouldn't give out the registry info except to people who ask about it. The store will try to get you to put in email addresses to send a link to everyone you know. It makes sense for the store to want to do that, because they want to sell stuff, but it's rude and tacky because it's basically saying "Buy me some stuff!"

Depending on the store, after your baby shower, they may offer a discount if you purchase the rest of the stuff on the registry that you didn't recieve.

Remember when you fill out your registry that you should include inexpensive items, for people who may not have as much to spend on a gift.

A gift registry is a "wish list" for things other people can buy for you (to give as gifts at a baby shower or after the baby is born). If they're offering you a free gift, its probably just for establishing one at a particular store (because they know they'll make a bundle when the people buy the items off your list).

what you do is go to the store like Babies R US and record everything you need from the store into registry. Basically you get the scanner and go around the store and scan UPCs of items you'd like to have and make a list.
Later on you give your registry number to people who'll be coming to baby shower, or who'd like to give a gift and they go and buy the stuff you wanted from your registry, instead of buying something you don't need and to avoid duplication.
Many stores do offer free gifts if you have a registry opened in their store, nothing major - some car shades, etc.
