RSF,
I used to work for Wells Fargo, in their El Monte call center. They are a horrible bank and I would never, ever bank there.
They lie to get customers.
One lady who had been a good customer for over 10 years (personal and business accounts) signed her kid up for a free College Checking Account. After 2 months, she noticed over $60 in fees (no overdrafts...there was no justification).
Free Checking Accounts have about $15 fees per month.
I made the mistake of signing up for an Employee account, which was supposed to give me interest on my free checking account, above rate interest on savings, etc. I left after a month of seeing $15 in fees.
Lost Deposits
Customers would constantly call in to find out why their deposits (either in the bank or via ATM, and there was one that was Direct Deposit) weren't credited to their accounts.
Excessive Holds on Deposits
Holds were placed on direct deposits or payroll checks and they were not supposed to be.
No "Opt-Out"
Legally, banks are NOT supposed to try and solicit business from you unless you ask for additional services. This is when you opt out. WF had a script for us to read to customers whose balances were over $25,000 to solicit them.
I could go on and on.
I bank with Washington Mutual. I am very satisfied with them, and while I was at Wells, I actually referred dissatisfied customers to them.

Wells Fargo bank stole my money only $40. I took out $40 from an ATm and they told me that it was from my Wells Fargo credit card. Bullshit. It was from my checking account. The tellers aren't nice either. I stopped by once to buy a roll of quarters and the teller looked at me like I was some kind of weirdo. Luckily I don't need quarters anymore, but I am never banking there ever again. I like Bank of America because they let me keep the change on every purchase I made. I don't care if they are issuing credit card to illegal immigrants. it is just a rumor because I didn't read that information about it from Yahoo news or my local newspaper.

Wells Fargo and Bank of America and actually, all banks in California are the worse. I don't trust any of them and for principle, I have reverted to burying money in the yard or in the walls because they are crooks. The worse is that they charge to cash checks drawn on their bank if the person's cashing the check doesn't have an account. So when you write someone a check, in essence, it'll always be $5 less than what's written. Also, the even charge to cash state government check. I was on unemployment, where $5 can be a meal for a day or even week, a la Top Ramen. Most people unemployed don't have an account, and if they do, don't have money to keep in it. To charge someone and penalize them for being poor or during hard times shows a business philosophy I can't do business with

Don't get me started!!! They deducted someone else's $500 check out of my account and told me that it would take up to 14 business days to research the problem. Meanwhile my mortgage payment was about to clear my account. After I demanded, they had it corrected overnight. I had never had a problem before. Also, I closed my account two years ago and just found out that they added a service fee and two NSF charges AFTER I closed my account and I hadn't heard one word from them about it until I went to open another checking account recently and couldn't because they have my check systems report screwed up!! I'm going with a local credit union. NEVER, NEVER Wells Fargo Bank again!!!

I work for a bank, so obviously I am biased. LOL I have had many customers who have had issues with Wells Fargo, though. If you don't like your bank, switch.

I have had Wells Fargo for nearly 20 years and have never had a problem with them. (and no, I have never worked for them)
-They had my car loan several years ago. I was able to have them draw the money automatically from my account every month so I never missed a payment and was never late.
-When my little sister got her first checking account with them, she bounced several checks because she had not yet figured out how to balance her checkbook. I went with her to the bank, explained the situation, and they waived every single overdraft fee.
-They have never lost any of my deposits or screwed up my accounts.
-My debit card was stolen and used to purchase a lot of gas. After reminding them that they knew what kind of car I drove (from the above mentioned loan), they knew that my car couldn't take the amount that was charged to my card and gave me my money back. I still had to go through the steps of getting a provisional credit and waiting for them to do an investigation but it wasn't too painful.
-I have 2 free checking accounts with WF and have NEVER paid a fee for either one. The primary account has been open since 1993 and the secondary account was opened in 2004. I don't even get charged when I order new checks from them.
Perhaps you should try a different branch. I've used WF in Colorado and Texas with no problems. If you are set on changing banks, try WaMu. I keep a backup account with them and they have been very attentive.

Did you ever think that it could possibly be the actual bank you are banking at? My mother has had banked with them for almost a year and loves it. The only thing she's had problems with was her online banking, but it got all figured out and they where friendly about it.
