how do people attain power and what is the responsability of society to protect those who cannot protect themselves?

Wealth is one way people attain power.... brilliance and leadership are others. Voting is our responsibility, it is suppose to help us protect each other, but that doesn't work anymore ... there are too many corrupt people in power.

Power is an abstract idea.
Humans think they are the pinnacle of evolution but we are just pack animals, we follow the dominant lead.
People in power have simply learned how to be the 'alpha dog' of the pack. Money, education and influence are secondary to real power.

Most frequently, power comes to a person who happens to be in certain circumstances. For example, if your father is a rich CEO, you will almost automatically inherit his power.
