The employer says the overtime was unauthorized, but they wanted the work done!

Report them to your state's Department of Labor. They will be forced to pay for overtime, authorized or not, and incur heavy fines. Of course, when they get wind of this, you may be terminated for working unauthorized hours. This is why most people just put up with it and never report it.

Check your employee handbook. IF it says they will pay overtime, then you should be paid. IF not, sue them or go to the labor board or EEOC.

How can they say it was unauthorized, when they probably also told the manager to make sure the job is done before everyone goes home. So really they only authorized the manager (supervisor) to do it, not the rest of the staff. He should have been left to do the job since he was the only one authorized. LOL

Complain to EEOC.
