No..we are supposed to be a beacon of freedom, so why don't we have the same freedoms as people in Holland or Spain have? It costs money to fill our jails with drug offenders, so legalizing it would save us 10,000 a year for each victimless criminal that we put through the system...and we could tax it like cigarettes!

no.. It's ridiculous that it's already not. By legalization it would free up prisons for true criminals, you would save money on the pathetic war on drugs. Money which could be spent on education. It's the easiest crop to grow. You can use it for rope, clothes, even ethanol. Also when all the tobacco growers need a new crop this will work perfectly.

No
#1 it does not effect your judgment as bad as alcohol

#2 you know how much consumption it takes to get you intoxicated instantly, unlike alcohol where you can later find out you drank too much when you really shouldn't be impaired.

#3 it isn't a gateway drug. the only gateway, is sending young curious adults to drug dealers who make more money off other substances, and would rather see them doing one of their more profitable products.

#4 on marijuana, you are up and down within 1.5 hours. you can get as blasted as you want at the beginning of the night, dance at a nightclub from 11pm to 2 am and be sober to drive home, as long as you didn't drink anything.

#5 do you think someone high on marijauna is actually going to want to cause problems around town like drunks do, or hit taco bell and just chill??

but problems associated with lack of sleep would probably disappear from our society causing pharm stocks to drop sharply.

Of course not. It is illegal for one reason only: the liquor industry loves its monopoly on mind-altering drugs. Until the United States abandons its hypocritical stance against alcohol (which we tried in the 1920's), all drugs should be legal. There is not another drug out there that is as dangerous, addicitive, and mind-altering as alcohol.

Plus we lose out in billions of dollars of tax revenue every year that marijuana remains illegal.

I don't think it should be illegal. It's so decriminalized in Canada that it should just be made legal because petty drug offences take up too much time and money to be processed through the court system.

I personally believe that all mind altering drugs and this includes alcohol should be monitored, not necessarily made illegal. At this point, marijuana is illegal, except for medicinal purposes, which leads me to believe that marijuana should be legalized for that explicit purpose.
Have fun with your project, God Bless, Martha S.

Check out the history of criminalization of drugs in this country[ USA ].

It is all based on racist ideas and in no way on our health.
The government doesn't care about our health.
Good luck on your debate.

My feeling is for recreational use it should probably be illegal. Not strong feeling.

Its bad for you but not chrystal meth.

For medical issues then, I think either it or more likely its extracts should be licensed for use if and only if the drug research guys think it can help.
