My husband and I have been married for 7 yrs. now, and don't want kids, but when we tell that to our family and friends, they are shocked, because they think everyone MUST have kids. I haven't come across any Indians in US who don't want kids, but I am sure there are people out there. How do you tackle your family specially your in-laws in such matter when they think we are crazy, and will change our minds soon?

It's not just Indians who will be shocked.. but most people will. It's a very human basic need to pass on our traits and traditions. We like to leave a mark of our existence and love. But if you don't want kids, I'm sure you have your reasons. I would just tell them that, "as of now.. we're not ready to have kids" and leave it at that.

If you decide not to have children, that is your choice. But, I for one would never advise any one not to have children, unless there are compelling medical or economic reasons. May be you can postponing the baby. Despite all the anxieties and suffering one undergo in begetting and nurturing children, we need to have children. If you have any reservation about begetting children, you may consider adoption.

I applaud people who don't give in to peer pressure. If you don't want kids, then I think you shouldn't have them. Good for you.

You shouldnt make your minds up right now, children are such a blessing I think anyone who just says they dont want them is kinda selfish.
