What the American government knows but will not say is that "winning" in Iraq is impossible. Sunnis and Shiites have been killing each other for years and it will not stop now. Iran is feeding weapons to the Shiites and they are gaining in power. As soon as we leave Iraq the Shiites will become even more emboldened and begin killing everyone in sight. Iran will move into Iraq and then the USA will be in for a real battle. Goodbye Iran. The middle east is turning into more than merely a powder keg. And our ally Israel is in the middle of all this crap with the friggen Arabs. Arabs love to fight. It is their number one past time.

"What exactly does "Winning in Iraq" look like? When will we know it's time to leave because we finally "won"?"

Bush and his inner circle could tell you the answer to this, but they won't. There's just no way to phrase "Secure the puppet government, secure the oil and make the military industrial complex filthy rich" in a way that would insure the continued support of the American people

Instead, the goals are vague, expressed in generalities and the American people are being bombarded with calls to support freedom, the war on terror and democracy in the Middle-east.

Smoke and mirrors.

The US has the least interest in winning anything at this point, it is now up to the new Iraqi government to sustain itself physically. Additionally, although troops fighting may be pulled out of the fight. The US will always have their foot in the door for military strategic position in the World, and an Embassy and Military bases will be there for quite some time.

Forget Iraq we are dealing with Iran now.............

We already won when we captured Saddam and took his regime out of power. I'm sorry to say this but we aren't going to permanantly leave the Middle East. We are there for good. Just like after the fall of Germany and Japan during WW2. It took us 2 decades to get those countries straightened out. They are on the right track and we still have military stationed in those countries. This is what will happen in Iraq as well. Liberating a country doesn't happen over night. It takes time. We will prevail.

Winning in Iraq is when we (coalition troops) pull our forces out and let the Iraqi's govern, police and defend their own.

Sadly, there is no way for us to win there anymore. There are too many elements working against us. Too many militias kidnapping and causing too much violence, leading them down the Civil war road.

Of course, once we pull out, things could get a lot worse for the people in Iraq. It just depends on what the factions inside decide to do once the "Zionist" west is out. I have a feeling that we haven't even scratched the surface of the war on terror, and I imagine this could last 30 or more years (not necessarily in Iraq alone, but also in other countries that harbor/aid/support/train terrorist organizations.)

I'm really confused, I thought we "won" when Saddam was removed from power? We won after we established their government for them, I mean after we helped them establish their own government. We won on day two of Operation Iraq Freedom when we controlled their major oil fields, their major oil port, their major pumping station in southern Iraq, their off shore loading platforms, their gas and oil separators. It's all available on the internet for everyone to see. Why do you think there are a ton of civilian, (read Halliburton) workers in the area and you rarely hear anything about the oil. We have been in control of their oil since day two. Why do you think V.P. Cheney keeps staying the course, they have nothing to lose and plenty to gain keeping this thing going.

When Iran falls and Bush thinks he has secured Jerusalem. The problem is this is a pipe dream, and we need to find out what BushOilCo is smoking. If we continue on this path it will only get worse, for the goals are unattainable and our resources are not inexhaustable. But, they don't care as they plunder the US Treasury for $12 billion a week along the way. When we finally realize this is not a matter of policy but plunder instead, we will focus on the real issue. If Bushites remain in control of policy, we will never leave.

In the vision of sectarian violence and religion being thrust into their political system, it's hard to say. The difference between Iraq and the US is that they fight with religion as a cause, and we excommunicate religion from matters of state. We won't 'per Se' win the war. We are only there to support the new Iraqi government to assist until they can stabilize and fight their own issues.

The Iraq war is impossible for us to win. We can leave at any time. There is no reason for us to occupy the country.

The only way we could "win" is if we killed every single Iraqi, including the children. The children cannot live as children and see their loved ones getting killed, their country ruined by Americans. They will strike back when grown at the invaders.

Our leaders are too dumb to realize this.
