Well, when your rhetoric says, "I support the troops" and yet you advocate actions that will deliver a defeat to everything those troops stand for, your actions negate the very words you say. That is why.
I support the troops in heart, mind, and actions. I don't need a bumper sticker to announce false intentions. I support them so much that I have served my time in the military, got out, and still work for them.
When the "Support the Troops" people come out with chants and slogans that mirror exactly what the terrorists are saying, you really have to wonder who's side they're on, when they say they support the troops but then aid and abet the enemy.

Well that is a good question.
I find that every military person I have talked to believes in what the USA military is doing in IRAQ.
Knowing that then I would say if someone speaks out against the troops being there then I would say since they, or at least the vast majority of them ( the troops ) believe in what they are doing, then speaking out that you do not support what is going on there would be also not supporting the troops. As you are speaking against what they are doing and they believe in what they are doing.
Now if you are talking about personally supporting, then you could be emailing military that is in Iraq, visiting VA hospitals and volunteering etc...

I think this is an honest effort to avoid what happened in the Viet Nam era. The troops came home from our last quagmire to the jeers of the public. They went there because they were told to and served bravely. But many faced an incredibly hard time adjusting to civilian life when they were demonized for participating in the war.

This was a subject that was talked about on Air America a couple of months ago. It just means from the democrat/liberal standpoint. If you support the troops, you support the president and the war. At least that's what I got from the knuckleheads from LAir America
