I am looking to prove a point in a debate. My point is that feminist literature will increase assertiveness in women so that they are not as likely to be beat by there husbands. I need a women in society, at any time, that has maybe left there husband due to increased assertiveness. Please and Thank You.

The problem with this theory is that women who are feminists and already assertive are less likely to get into a situation like this to begin with. The problem when dealing with domestic violence is that it is insidious the way the partner slowly erodes the victims self esteem over time. Sometimes the verbal and emotional abuse far supersede the actual physical abuse. After a while the victim gives up and believes that the partner is doing what is best and that they in fact deserve to be punished. Rather like Stockholm syndrome. Also when victims finally turn on the abusers and kill them they are not given the proper legal considerations that men are when killing in self defence. The law is totally against women in this respect.

I do think that literature plays a small but significant role in feminism, but no a woman is more than likely not going to read a feminist book and then be like "i dont think i want to get hit today lets leave my husband" Women who dont get into or manage to get out of abusive relationships arent exactly feminists they are just concious of their self worth

I don't think it has anything to do with feminism, I think allot of it has to do with up bringing and society. Feminism has been around for hundreds of years. And violent behavior in both sexes has been going on since the beginning of the human race. And it is a generalization to say men are violent. This is a stereotype. Not all men are violent, not all women are violent. Some are and some aren't.

I have an example of a woman who got an award from feminists for being assertive towards her abusive husband, well she says he was abusive:

i don't know about literature influencing it... nor was i beaten...
but i got sick of my ex calling me a worthless-lazy-nagging-*****-& the cause of his alcoholism, and got fed up with him not letting me have any friends and constantly hacking into my email accounts, and using my credit card to pay for illegal porn while completely ignoring my needs, and so i left him.
