what is the life span of a sperm when kept in open air?

The sperm would just dry up with in a short time. As a result it would weaken very quickly and start dying off fairly quickly. Much would depend on environmental conditions such as the item it is on, dryness of air, absorbency, etc.... But basically as long as it is wet it would have some potency and dry, none...

So on cloth no time, in a container depends on container,amount, etc..

it depends on the environment around said sperm. Generally, a sperm cell can live in open air until it dehydrates, which is usually no more than a few hours (I'll let you fill in the potential variables involved in that ejacula...I mean estimation)
