Just a clarification from someone who has been there, a pacifier does not help prevent SIDS. Number one SIDS cannot be prevented and number two I had a baby die of SIDS and she had a pacifier in her mouth, it feel out when she stopped breathing. My husband was setting right beside her when she stopped and noticed it because when the pacifier fell out he went to put it back in and noticed that she was not breathing. I joined a SIDS group after the loss of my daughter and guess what, having a pacifier did not make any difference according to any of those mothers either their babies still died so don't think that just because you use a pacifier your baby will not be taken by SIDS. If it is goign to happen it is going to happen no matter what you do.

If you didn't want a child to depend on a pacifier, why introduce it in the first place?
We, as parents, help these habits form then we decide we dont like it and try to stop it..do you see what I am saying?
I weaned my first child (now 11) off his pacifier when he was 6 months..now my daughter ( 7 1/2 weeks) uses one occassionally, which is good cause she isn't dependant on it...there is nothing wrong with your 3 week old self soothing in this manner, and for you to condemn it now, ugggg...did your 3 weel old ask for it to begin with? Take some responsibilty and let your baby be a happy baby... Babies don't need stress!!
You can always ween a baby, ugggg.

Oh, I hear you sister. I finally weaned my son off it at about 10 weeks cause I just couldn't stand it anymore. I did it cold turkey for sleep times; the first time he cried it out for a couple hours but he did eventually fall asleep and each time after that it was less. I would still use it sparingly if I was just trying to hold him out for a feeding and there was no danger of him falling asleep with it. At your baby's age you should just take it away as if you never used it.

i think it is easier to ween them off early rather than later, it will probably be hard at first but, easier than taking it away later
that said,...sucking is good for babies brain development and eventually the baby will be able to keep the paci in her mouth by herself
there are pros and cons either way you might want to try researching further on babycenter.com to see which side you would have an easier time living with :)

Sure you can. There are a lot of people that will say it's good to have them to reduce the risks of SIDS; however there are other things you can do as well. There are other 'risks' to having a child 'addicted' to their binky: the emotional toll of weaning later when they are really attached, the fatigue you get when you wake up every 10 minutes to pop it back in their mouth, and I won't get into the potential for language delay. If you are inerested and willing to wean her now, DO IT NOW!! Be patient and realize she may scream or have a hard couple of days, but it will be worth it in the end. I am pregnant with my first, but I have a degree in Early Childhood Education and have worked with Infants and Toddlers for nearly 5 years now. Believe me, I know what I'm talking about!! Good luck!

You should do what you feel is best, my daughter LOVED her bink! It took me till she was 2 to finally get rid of it but it really wasn't that hard. She never had it during the day at day care only at night or if she was home so I just weened her from it slowly. BUT my neice loved it too and my sister took it away when she was a baby and she started sucking her thumb and still does when she sleeps to this day.

yes my son never took it like you said he would pop it out and i would be stuck there holding it in his mouth like a chump. that got old real fast
but heres the catch, when she is older and you are trying to get her to not need a middle of the night bottle (or 2 or 3 like my son LOL) keep the paci so when she wakes up, dont immediatly make a bottle, just put it back in her mouth until she goes to sleep, get it out fast (that is the tricky part because when it falls out thats when she wakes, right?) and she might go back to sleep without anything else. it gets her in the habit of staying asleep 4-6 hours at a time! If she isnt breastfed exclusivly ask the doctor this is safe if she doesnt need to be fed every 2 hours! I did that for a while until my son slept thru the night, and i carried one around for emergencies if he cried or fussed too hard, but by 3 months he never saw one again. he still couldnt keep it in his mouth! :) hope this advice helped! but you were right, babies need to suck so keeping a couple around for a while is good, and i heard it helps prevent SIDS but like i said my son lived without it pretty much!

those toys are his convenience products. the youngsters I watch have convenience products as well. they're 2 & 4. I enable them carry the toys in the motorcar yet aren't from now on aloud to take them in anyplace we pass. in the experience that they opt for to carry them in I say, your animals are drained and they opt for to relax and stay in the motorcar or they opt for to stay in the motorcar and guard your vehicle seat. Sounds stupid, notwithstanding it fairly works. they don't alway ask to carry them and intensely some the time save them at homestead. I see the position your coming from. come across a exciting way of telling him why the animals won't be able to pass to daycare. perchance tell him there no longer the right age for daycare and prefer to stay homestead and tell him you and mommy will guard them and also you would have them in the motorcar for you even as daycare is over. wish this helps.

Probably shouldn't have given it to her in the first place. So, it falls out. Does she cry when it does? You can also buy pacifier clips so they don't fall to the floor. I'm sure you can ween her from it. Not good to use, especially if you're trying to breast feed.
I let my son use one. It made him happy, who am I to complain.

I wouldn't worry so much about it since she is still young. Hopefully your swaddling her that helps a lot at this age. Also try soothing sounds, like heartbeat, ocean, rain ect.
