Why waste time and money on regular glass? My kids are just going to break it anyway before they play with it.

Try ebay. Or just break all the windows in your house.

If you were serious, I would recommend Glass Beach, in northern California. It's actually a pretty cool beach, where the sand is made up of tons of broken glass, that has been worn by the constant motion of the waves, and is now, colored sand.
But, I think you're just being stupid, so I won't.

No, there's no way to fix them yourself. They need specialized tools to fix them. The cord needs to be restrung and there is a special way to put in the lens. The glasses need heated to make sure they don't break when readjusting them. Here's the good news. If there is an optician at the place you bought the glasses who is knowledgable in fixing glasses, he or she should be able to fix them (if they are fixable) at no charge. Take them back and have them take a look at them and see what they can do. I've fixed many a frame in my day that looked very "unfixable". Here's another thing. If the lens has a scratch warranty, you may be able to get the lens replaced at no charge also. Ask when you go in.

Go to your local neighborhood hardware store. They will have a barrel of broken glass that they generate when they cut glass to order for their customers. Sometimes they recycle it, but usually they throw it in a dumpster. If you ask nicely, they just might give it to you for free, especially if you bring a box to put it in. At the worst, they will charge you a couple of bucks.

Good luck with your glass problem.

This may sound weird, but my art teacher used to do it all the time.

He told me that he would call up the bus station people (I guess the city transit department) and ask them if he could collect any broken glass that they had picked up/are going to pick up from damaged bus shelters.

You can try it..it worked for him! :)
