Possibly, they also don't like not receiving all the attention.. which confident people get because they radiate from the inside out.

It would seem that many people confuse confidence with arrogance.
Two totally different things. Arrogance is generally a facade that is put up to hide insecurity. As such, it is no wonder that people will react in a rude manner.
Confidence that is displayed, on the other hand, is considered by both sexes as an attractive asset. Simply put, all of us would rather be around confident people. They are more fun, they live life to the fullest and they exude to all around them a feeling of security and safety.
But back to your question. I don't think people are rude to confident people. Only people they think are disingenuous.

There is a fine line between confidence and arrogance. If you cross it, people won't like you.
Besides, most people are rude. There are not a lot of nice people out there.

It's because people who are confident possess such...er...confidence which they fear they will never have, and so they try to convince themselves they are just as confident by trying to make the confident people feel just as bad. But the thing is, if the person is truly confident, they don't care!

I think a confident attitude threatens a lot of people. Most people seem to prefer those who put themselves down.

1. Everyone is rude sometimes.
2. People who are rude to confident people are often projecting their own insecurities and judgements about themselves on to others.
-Part of this may be that you resent that you don't feel confident yourself, so deep inside, you are jealoous of what they have and you don't.

They don't like what they see in the confident person. So they want to make that person unhappy. Misery loves company.
