Relax...We have what is called a democracy which will get a make-over in less than two years. The fact someone may hear your little phone conversations or a man may be detained from a flight are small drops in the bucket compared to famine, disease, and extreme poverty.

Also millions fought in WWII at a time when civil rights were not at the level they are today. Your argument leaves open loads of room for criticism by the fact one could argue we should return to those days. The mindset of liberty in America during the period of World War 2 was pretty dim in comparison of the way we treated African Americans and even Asians.

When you compare liberties in America the comparison of the present day Patriot Act pales deeply to that of yesteryear's struggles. I mean you are comparing apples to oranges....freedom of phone calls to outright freedom of just being a citizen.

You need to totally think about what you are trying to say. Troops fight and die for the process of America. This process will stumble and kink in its path but it will always continue to strive for liberty and safety for all.

huh?

FDR was reading all international mail, all phone calls were monitored by the FBI......and Americans were in prision because they were asians. And you think the Patriot Act is a removal of freedom? Read a history book man. Americans are more free now than we have been in the last 100 years.

Perhaps you should open a history book and take a look at the freedoms that were "removed" during WWII in order to protect America during a time of war. We lost more freedoms under FDR during the depression than we have in the last 30 years. But hey, who cares about history if it gets in the way of the political point you're trying to express, right?

This question was just phrased poorly.
To those who tell the asker to open a history book, I ask you to do the same. In WWII, there was a clearly defined enemy, governments that we were fighting to defeat in the name of peace. In our present war, we fight to defeat an ideology, and have in theory and near fact created more enemies and strengthened the ideology with our tactics.
How can we do this, and continue to sponsor legislation that revokes our civil liberties? I'm willing to sacrifice, but where does it end?

For their convenience. They are called "traitors" parliament is full of them.We began to lose our freedom as soon as we went into europe we now get lorry loads of legislations every year, that we dont want, to be captured and enslaved by the

Because (some) people are still gullible enough to believe that its all 'for their protection' and the ones who don't believe that don't get a choice because the government force it upon us all anyway in this so-called 'democracy'..

Have you heard the latest draconian proposal from Mr Bliar?! Check it out:
