i've had the first hole since i was 8 or 9 with no problems. i got the second hole in my lobes a litle over 4 weeks ago.then last week the left one started giving me problems (red, itchy). i started treating it by sea salt soaking and it seemed fine. but i woke up this morning and it felt worse ,and it is swollen. now my left ear also feels irritated.
could my problem be the earrings? it's driving me nuts - i wanna take them out and let it close & get them redone, but i know if i let them close i can trap in infection.

First of all, make sure the earrings are non-allergenic posts. Then, use the over-the-counter antibiotic cream called Neosporin. Put the Neosporin on the post of the earring every time you put it in and also around both the front and back of the opening. This should clear it up in a few days. Neosporin worked great in my earring-hole infections. If it doesn't get better in a few days, or gets worse, definitely go to the doctor because if it gets bad enough, the scarring could really be ugly.
