This might be true but only idealistically. I do not know Epecuro, but here are my thoughts about the topic. I would say that I have not experienced a state of perfect happiness in my life. There have always been questioning thoughts about the lasting of happy moments, and desires, although temporarily gone under the surface and out of focus, always emerged intact.

I think, the nearest we can get to a sate of happiness is only by refining our desires, and not by actually eliminating them or crushing them; desires after all spring from the sources of our own energy for life in the mind; they are like elaborations to our own instinctive, and natural needs. May be our desire to have more and more and of all the best is an expression of our needs for security, that we want assurance that we can have the best things when and where we need them. We can increase our understanding about our life and relationships we build with things that surround us; we can realise that desires only prompt us to acquire things for our own good but desire might not always be very reasonable, requiring us to intervene and think things through. The goodness of earth will express itself anyway, and if we do not plant a garden to maintain and enjoy, weeds will grow – desires are not weeds, but unattended growth in the mind.
