I am curious about another pregnancy, Has it happened to anyone else?
With my 5 yr old son i was diagnoised with high blood pressure, toxemia, etc about 7 months in to pregnancy. Bed rest, having to go to the hospital 3 days a week for stress tests etc... what do you think the chances are for having the same problems?
thanks in advance! I was only 17 years old also when i became pregnant, i think that might have some to do with it???

I have read that have a child as a teenager involves higher risk of toxemia/pregnancy-induced high blood pressure/preeclampsia.
At the same time, so does being over 35 years old.

So if you're now in your 20s and healthy, you have a lower risk with subsequent pregnancies. Your previous history of preeclampsia does raise your risk somewhat, though.

Read on for more (from the Mayo Clinic):

* History of preeclampsia. A personal history of preeclampsia or family history of preeclampsia increases your risk of developing the condition.

* First pregnancy. Your chances of developing preeclampsia are greater if this is your first pregnancy, your first pregnancy with a new partner, or your first pregnancy in 10 years or more.

* Age. Your risk of preeclampsia increases if you're younger than 20 or older than 35 at the time of pregnancy.

* Obesity. Having a pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI) greater than 30 is a risk factor for preeclampsia.

* Multiple pregnancy. Preeclampsia is more common in women who are carrying twins, triplets or more.

* History of certain conditions. Having certain conditions before you become pregnant can be a risk factor for preeclampsia. This includes chronic high blood pressure, diabetes, kidney disease or connective tissue disease — such as rheumatoid arthritis or lupus.

Well it all depends.. you will have a higher risk to getting it again. I also had preeclampsia with my son in my 1st pregnancy. I am 30wks along in this one and they say I could get it again. I only thought you get it once.. but the high risk doctor tells me I was wrong. Just try to watch your sodium intake and carbs also. I also have gestational diabetes. If you follow a good diet while you are pregnant, then you should do well. Exercise daily 30 to 45 mins (unless the doctor tells you otherwise). Also if you are overweight your chances increase. I have always been overweight. I am sure that you will have to see a high risk doctor at or around 20 wks. I wish you alot of luck and hope that all goes well!! Congrats!

I was 17 as well with my first and had exactly the same thing...my next pregnancy at age 19 was fine and then I went on and had two more pregnancies about ten years later which were also fine...they say the first one is the worst...Good Luck!!

i don't think that you will have as much trouble with the pregnancy unless it is the same problem as before but just remember to try and relax and keep the stress at a minimum
