hello, i was wondering, can anyone help me or give me advice on how to wake up in the middle of the night to hear my daughter?
i just recently had a baby, and she is almost two weeks old. My mom has been staying with me, and helping me take care of the baby. She wakes up in the middle of the night, and feeds her because i can not wake up, i dont hear her cry. Has this ever happend to anyone before? and can someone tell me ways that i can be able to hear my baby, and wake up?
by the way, i had a C section, when i had my baby, and i have to take pain meds for it. Could that be a reason why i cant wake up that good? and am always tired?

You should get a baby monitor, and place it next to your bed, so that when she wakes up and cries, it will be right next to your ear.

K well I had a c-section to and I DID NOT take the pain meds for that exact reason. No one HAS TO take pain meds.
What you need to do is stop taking the pills if you can manage and maybe switch to Tylenol (they shouldn't have given you narcotics in the first place)
And then get yourself a baby monitor and turn it up.
You can bring the baby into your room in a bassinet.
I had a 10 pound baby via emergency c section after 14 hours of labor and attempting a natural birth and I opted not to take any pain meds afterwards because I'm breastfeeding...I can hear my baby cut a fart from across the house and I haven't slept in 6 months...
I have no idea how a mother could not hear her baby crying.
Get off the dope. You dont need it.

Cognrats on the baby...
First off, you have help staying with you and therefore, its' easier to sleep through knowing that your mom will get the baby..that's cool...I didn't have help.
2nd...Your meds could also be causing problems with you waking...you should be off them by now anyways..
I had an emergency c-section and I had NO pain meds afterwards for personal reasons, but I do know that after a week I felt almost 100 % ... if you are still in that much pain you should speak to your doctor.
3rd..do get a baby monitor, put it next to your head and turn it UP before you go to sleep.
It is normal to be tired right now, but do try to get off the meds, they are addicting and like I said before you shouldn't be in that much pain now to have to take them..
Good Luck

I sometimes have trouble waking in the middle of the night, too.
You have two choices.
1). Have your baby sleep in the room with you. In the early months, all three of my kids slept in a basinet right next to my side of the bed. I had no choice but to hear them.
2). Get a baby moniter, and put the reciever next to you with the volume way up.
If you've already tried these, then yes...it could be the pain medication. You will probably be tired for the first five to seven weeks of your baby's life. Giving birth, particularly with a C-section, is not the easiest thing to do. Being tired is your body's way of telling you to take it easy and let it heal.

To start, Sillygirl's answer was slightly snide and insulting. I have been a light sleeper my ENTIRE life. Every single thing wasks me up. Not so since I had my baby a month ago. Monitor or no monitor, I dont hear him, unless he's in bed with me, which, I dont want him to get in the habit of. Im not on any meds and I am hurt and confused by this. Its not like me at all. Thank Goodness there is my husband, usually dead to the world when sleeping, to help me out.
"How can a mother not hear her baby crying" she asks. Well you obviously don't know and you obviously do care....after all you're here asking, right?

Try setting an alarm, you should know by now how often she's eating. And yes the pain meds could have something to do with it. I had a c-section and don't remember still taking pain meds after 2 weeks. Maybe you should let up on them.....Do you have a monitor? That would help too.......Or move the crib, bassinet or whatever she's sleeping in and put it in your room......

the pain meds could very well be the reason, like the first responder said get a baby monitor and turn it up all the way and place right by your pillow. Good Luck

Get yourself a baby monitor. Go to the store, and test the vloume on them. Get teh loudest one possible, and have it on your bedside and you should be able to hear her. MY guess is you are exhausted, and taking the pain meds is causing you to sleep very soundly. You should be weaning yourself from the pain meds pretty soon.

do you breastfeed? what i did was i'd set my alarm clock to wake me up when she needed her feedings.... i didn't have a problem with hearing her but she wasn't waking up... she was a sleeper! is she sleeping in the same room as you? your meds may be affecting you, i would ask you doctor. good luck and continue having fun with your new little one!!!
